BIO

Josef Bugeja was born in 1974 at Balzan, Malta. As a child Bugeja studied piano and has performed extensively both as soloist as well as in various chamber formations around the Maltese islands. He then continued his musical studies at the University of Malta where he earned his B.A. degree in Music Studies.

From an early age Bugeja assisted Louis Bajada O.Carm in carrying out his duties as maestro di cappella of various Maltese churches and has been his assistant conductor since 2002. Between 1993 and 1999 Bugeja held the position of organist at the Carmelite Parish of Balluta in St.Julian's and assisted the Parish's own maestro di cappella Daniel Sammut O.Carm, organist and prolific composer of sacred music. Moreover, Bugeja founded the Balzan Parish Choir and was his musical director until 2002.

During the scholastic year 2000-2001 Josef taught music at St.Augustine's College, Gwardamangia and in 2004 he was invited to join the Jubilate Deo Choir (Naxxar) and was appointed Assistant Director to conductor and composer Christopher Muscat. In August 2006 he was appointed as Musical Director of Infahhru lil Marija Choir (Fgura).

Bugeja is a much sought after teacher of music (particularly piano, theory and singing) and his experience in the field of sacred music makes him a specialist in the performance and direction of the sacred and liturgical musical repertoires.
